Notes for: Joseph Long
The 1850 census indicates that Joseph's wife was "Harriet." It is not known at this time, if Harriet is a nickname for Mary, or if he had remaried. Joseph died in the early 1850's as Jesse B. Long was appointed administrator of the estate of his brother. Joseph's occupation on the 1850 census was jugmaker. On February 5, 1858, Jesse Bradford Long was appointed guardian for Mary Ann and Sarah Ann Long, orphans of Joseph Long. James made an affidavit on June 24, 1854, that he had received $30.00 from Jesse B. Long "in complete satisfaction of the year's support to which Katherine Long, the daughter of the said Joseph is entitled." At this point, we're sure that Katherine is the "C.E." Long listed on the 1850 census. Another mystery is that K. J. Long, widow of Joseph Long on May 31, 1854, said she "had received from Jesse B. Long, adminstrator of estate of Joseph Long my year's support for 12 months after the death of Joseph Long, my husband." Signed K. J. Long. A third wife??
