Notes for: Sarah J. Thombley
Not much information has been located on Sarah. Hopefully, recent contacts with decendents of O. D. will help close some gaps. Family members stated they were not aware of a second marriage of O. D. to Lou Hutchison, and they were not aware of any divorce documentation from Sarah. Sarah J. Britt of Dooly County, Georgia applied for a widow's pension, based upon the military service of O. D. J. J. (John Jasper) Britt of Crawford County, Georgia is listed as a witness for her claim. We have not made a trip to the library to obtain a copy of her application, and J. J. Britt's witness statements. There are six children of O. D. that have been attributed to Sarah; however, based upon information in O. D.'s pension application, one of them has been linked on this family sheet to Lou. Once information is verified, the records will be updated accordingly. It appears from the 1880 Mortality Schedule, that Sarah's mother Sarah died in November. Further complicating the issue: Edgar Hollis based upon the 1880 census would have been born around June of 1880. He is listed with his mother and grandfather Thomas Thombley. He is listed as 4/12 months old, and identified as grandson to Thomas. The affidavit in Lou's Widow Pension Application, would make it appear that "Hollis" is her child. Since he is listed with Sarah on the 1880 census, he has been placed with her as mother.
