Notes for: Joel Britt
Joel (30 years old) was listed with the Jacob Hortman family on the 1850 census. Ava Hortman was Ava Britt before marriage to Jacob. Joel appears to be Ava's son, and Kinchen's brother. Joel's father Obediah, is only speculation at this time; based upon Obed Britt and wife Avy; being dismissed from the Derrien Baptist Church in Washington County.
When Kinchen Britt deeded property to Henry N. Britt (in-trust) for the use of Kinchen's mother Ava, it seems to validate Joel and Kinchen are siblings. This particular Joel has seemingly been confused with a Joel Britt in DeKalb County, Georgia. It is doubtful this Joel was in DeKalb County, conducting family business, since he had been declared an indigent lunatic, in Crawford County and Taylor County Inferior Court minutes. It still has not been determine why Joel's step-father, Jacob Hortman, was seeking financial assistance in both Crawford and Taylor Counties, since the home property (deeded by Kinchen) was in Crawford County.
