Notes for: Lewis Miles Cullen Britt

On the 1850 census, Lewis was listed with the Hilliard Crutchfield family (173) as a laborer. Henry N. Britt, also of Crawford County, Georgia, named one of his sons, Lewis Miles C. Britt. Even though not confirmed; we are convinced there must have been a strong bond between the elder Lewis and Henry; for Henry to name a son Lewis M. C.; and Lewis, to name a son Henry N.

Even though listed on the Georgia CSA roster; information obtained from the 1864 Re-Organization census indicates that Lewis was exempt from service. (Britt, L.M.C., Age: 34 years 7 mos, Occupation: School Teacher, Born: Georgia, Exempt: School Teacher. )
